If you truly want to knock the crowd dead then throw in some jokes to ease them. After all it is a day full of happiness.

I think there is a certain way of doing this which is to mix it up with emtional things. Like including a joke at the beginning followed by a story about how you met the groom. Then a joke thrown in there. Spread them out so the audience remains focused to catch the jokes and you do not lose them.

That way they will feel touched once you get to the emotional stuff. Trying to think of jokes on the spot can easily add an awkward pause. So be sure to write them with your best man speech beforehand so you know they will be good and you can resight them.
